Job Description:
The role of the Tax Accountant is to provide support in areas of Indirect Tax, ensuring the most efficient methods of tax compliance which result in timely filings and a reduction in tax exposure where applicable. Specific job functions will include:

  • Assist in the preparation and timely filing of federal, state and local taxes including employment tax, sales and use tax, property tax, B&O, Canadian GST/HST, QST, and PST returns.
  • Provide support in the filing of workers’ compensation and escheat.
  • Identify opportunities and develop solutions to improve tax compliance and reporting efficiencies, including developing tax guidance for the company’s affiliated groups.
  • Perform tax research as required.
  • Draft tax technical memoranda as necessary to formalize internal tax compliance policies.
  • Work directly with other departments to coordinate the gathering of information necessary for compliance and other projects, including assistance with monthly account reconciliations to the General Ledger
  • Correspond with multiple state and local authorities to resolve tax issues.
  • Prepare journal entries, EFTs and AP vouchers as related to sales tax
  • Cross train in all areas of tax in order to respond to a variety of needs within the department

Required Skills:

  • A minimum of 3 years professional tax experience working in a mid to large corporate environment and/or Big 4 CPA firm
  • Ability to perform tax research and to summarize tax research findings in writing.
  • Skilled at writing summary reports, memos and documenting processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to analyze tax issues and summarize issues in a clear, concise manner to non-tax professionals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment working with high volume transactions.
  • Detail oriented and deadline driven.
  • Expertise with automation tools and transitioning manual process to automated systems is a plus
  • Proficiency in general ledger accounting principles
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related discipline is required
